As Whore School is an adult sex education podcast, airing live on Sundays at 11 pm Eastern, you have to expect that, from time to time, I’ll have to cover something a little more, well, gross. I went deep on dispelling myths around HIV/AIDS (and I need to do another episode on that topic, to cover advances made in treatment and prevention!), all nine herpes types, and everything you need to know about safe anal sex (put a towel down and use gloves.) This time, we’re gonna talk about bugs. That’s right, Sarcoptes, Pthirus, and friends! We’re gonna cover scabies and pubic lice, aka crabs. Hold onto your hats, this is gonna ick you all right out.
Adult Gross Sex Stuff
As an adult human being, you have to admit that sometimes the things we humans get up to sexually can be a little on the ew end of the scale. But, as a responsible adult that wants to be well educated and good at sex, you also know that we can do things that are super gross, learn about things that make our skin crawl, and do hard things. If you can clean out the dish drain, take out the trash even when it’s got a little of that gross liquid in the bottom of the bag, and wash your own ass, you can handle learning about the common parasitic infestations that sexually active humans may come into contact with. Of course we’d all rather pretend such things did not exist, but, you need to know the signs and symptoms, and what to do if you pick up a little sexually transmitted bug.
Scabies, Crabs, and More
Not to get too terribly graphic, but you are not alone. Right this moment, living on and in your body are thousands of living organisms. You’ve got harmless little mites that live on your eyelashes, bacteria in your guts to help digest your food, and single celled organisms in the Candida family all over you. This is normal and perfectly fine. The only time the little things living on and in us become a problem is when they, y’know, become a problem. Scabies can itch, cause flaking skin, and be generally extremely annoying. Crabs also itch, and may also cause a discolored rash. The main reason to get rid of both Scabies and Crabs is because they itch a lot and are very obnoxious. Thus, they are a problem.
