Attraction and Arousal

You know that I love a two concept episode title. This time, I’m drawing from a recent question in the Whore School Discord server. Miss Addy asked a really good question, but summed it up at the end with this: “are we insatiable horny goblins who know no bounds and can pretty much find anything and everything attractive/arousing?” So join Whore School as we discusss attraction and arousal, and answer the question! (Spoiler: yes, yes we are horny and insatiable goblins.)

I did answer the questions on the Discord server, but I’m also going to go a little more in depth for Sunday’s live podcast. Attraction is one of those things that people are just real weird with, and arousal responses are likewise off the charts wild. There’s a reason the Split Attraction Model is one of my favorite frameworks for understanding who and what people may be attracted to, and as for arousal, let me bring back my beloved gradient scale. It’s not an either/or situation, you see. Sometimes what we’re attracted to and aroused by exists somewhere on a floating scale, and may very well change from day to day!

Hormones, Socialization, and Inclinations

You’re going to love the answers for this episode of Whore School. Adult Sex Education goes real amorphous and wishy-washy, because the answer to ‘why are some people attracted to that? And why am I attracted to this?!’ is a resounding shrug and a ‘dunno, bud.’ Why are people into what they’re into? Hormones, probably. Or they’re socialized to find it attractive. Or maybe it’s an inate inclination. Did you know that if you’re into BDSM the odds are good that your ancestors were, too? There does seem to be some sort of a genetic link going on there. Of course, there are also folks who are kinky as all fuck and not a sign or hint of kink in their family tree exists! Basically, who the fuck knows why you get off to feet. Maybe you’re weird.

A Callback to Furries

One of the first episodes I teased here on this blog was all about Furries. (And various kinks spawned by modern TV shows. ~ahem~) I recently had a really fun session with a furry, and they made fan-art out of what we did together. So we’re gonna talk about the furry thing, because there’s some confusion about what a person may be attracted to when it comes to furries. I hinted in the Discord server that I could deliver a dissertation on masks, personnae, and the fun of using a costume to either subvert or support expectations and tropes. So we’re gonna get deep on all that. Let’s talk shamanic shapeshifting, masks in ritual use, the role that BDSM or kink can play in shadow work, and more.
